The length and width of shavings can be very easily adjusted by either adding chain to the Re-Sizer shaft or adjusting the speed of the shaft. Conveyors can be 15" wide, 25" wide, or 30" wide and can be anywhere from 10' long to whatever length is required.

CAN I MAKE MONEY WITH A SHAVING MILL?

1 cubic yard of shavings weighs 135 lbs.
1 ton = 2,000 lbs. ÷ 135 = 14.8 cubic yards per ton

If you sell shavings for $10 per cubic yard you will gross $148 per ton of wood. Our 40” mill produces 33 cubic yards of shavings per hour, so you can expect to use approximately 2 tons of wood per hour. If you run the mill 8 hours/day, you will make 264 yards of shavings. This is enough to fill 2 ½ tractor-trailers per day. You would have used 17.8 tons of wood during the day. If your cost for wood is $30 per ton, then your gross on $148 of shavings would be $118 after backing out the $30 for wood.

The following example is based on running the shaving mill for a one-day period. The costs are based on the following assumptions:

Finance Charges = $1,500/month
Labor Cost   =   $12/hour (1 person)
Fuel    =   $3/gallon
Cost of Wood per ton   =   $30
Maintenance =   One man hour $12

Selling the shavings for $10/cubic yard

COSTS (Based on an 8 hour day)
Finance charges ($1,500/month ÷ 20 business days) = $ 75
Labor (1 man 8 hours x $12/hour)    = $ 96
Fuel (4.5 gal/hour @ $3/gal)     = $108
Cost of Wood (17.8 tons @ $30/ton)    = $534
Maintenance (1 hour)      =  $ 12
TOTAL COST PER DAY = $825

NET PROFIT
You sell 264 yards of shavings for $10/cubic yard = $2,640

GROSS PROFIT $2,640
COST PER DAY - $825

SINGLE DAY PROFIT = $1,815
