How to Change Chip Blades & Check Bed Knives
on Salsco Chippers
All Engine Driven, Hydraulic Feed Chippers have Electric Safety Locks which prevents the engine from starting if the impeller housing is open. The electric safety lock, cannot be disabled if the impeller is still turning.
HELPFUL HINTS:
- DO NOT reach in and hold the impeller with your hand instead use a piece of 2” x 4” wood to push the impeller to desired position.
- When re- installing the blades, be sure to use Locktite. We use Locktite Blue 242, removable at the factory.
- BE SURE to clean mounting surface before installing the blades, and BE SURE to follow the torque specifications in the Salsco manual.
- It is also RECOMMENDED that you replace the hardware whenever replacing or reversing the blades.
- BED KNIFE ADJUSTMENT on hydraulic feed machines is .070. Check this clearance on all blades. HINT: Blades need sharpening after approximately 8-15 hours of use.
- ALWAYS wear protective gloves and wear eye protection when performing maintenance.
- REMEMBER: IF YOU ARE PERFORMING MAINTENANCE ON A PTO CHIPPER, DISCONNECT THE PTO SHAFT AND LOCK-OUT UNIT WHENEVER PERFORMING SERVICE AND MAINTENANCE.
