Royal Melbourne’s preparations for the men’s Australian Open highlight the role of Salsco HP3E rollers in producing championship ready putting surfaces.

Royal Melbourne Golf Club, ranked among the top ten courses in the world, is set to host the men’s Australian Open on the famed Composite Course for the first time in thirty four years. With tournament week approaching, the course team has been working through an intense preparation schedule that reflects the standards expected from one of the most respected venues in championship golf. Two Salsco HP3E rollers are used daily to deliver smooth, fast and consistent greens across the property.

Preparation has accelerated in recent days as contractors completed grandstands, hospitality areas, tee signage and camera structures. With rainfall driving rapid turf growth, greens and surrounds have received frequent nutritional and plant health applications. Spray teams have been working around member play and tournament construction activity, often beginning before dawn to stay ahead of schedules. Daily mowing of bentgrass and fescue surfaces has continued, with ideal moisture producing strong clipping yields that refine surface texture ahead of competition.

Bunker preparation has been another major focus, with every bunker raked, faced, edged and refined for consistency. Outside the ropes, significant attention has been directed to spectator areas, including tree trimming, access path repairs, mowing of viewing areas and detailed presentation work to ensure clean, safe and polished surroundings for thousands of expected visitors.

The Salsco HP3E rollers contribute directly to creating the tournament surfaces associated with the Composite Course. The electric design, precision handling and consistent pressure distribution support smoothness and firmness that elite players expect while aligning with the broader conditioning program. With weather forecasts indicating additional early week rainfall, managing moisture and maintaining green performance will remain a challenge, placing added importance on dependable rolling equipment.

Volunteer staff arrive just before tournament week, doubling the size of the maintenance team and supporting the final stages of preparation. Momentum continues to build as long days are dedicated to presenting Royal Melbourne at world class standards. With two Salsco HP3E rollers in operation, the course is positioned to deliver putting surfaces worthy of Australia’s most historic championship.
